Calendula . . .

Species/Family: Asteraceae
Scientific name:
Calendula officinalis

Calendula has a strong scent like marigold. As you pick the blossoms you will feel the sticky resin, the fuzzy stem & leaves. It is an easy to grow annual. The best time to pick is in the heat of the day when the resins are highest and the water content the lowest. To harvest for herbal remedies, use the entire blossom or dry the flowers, pull the petals off, store when completely dry. You can also freeze the blossoms to use later.
