Watching the elderberries . . .

Yes, not much to harvest this year but maybe enough elderberries to make a tincture or a syrup?

Blue or black elder is used in herbal medicine. Do not harvest or use the green berries.

Elderberry syrup

1C of fresh or 1/2C dried blue or black elderberries
3 cups of water
1 cup of honey

  • Place berries in a saucepan

  • Reduce the heat
  • Simmer for a half hour
  • Mash the berries
  • Strain mixture through a sieve
