Witch Hazell (Hamamelis virginiana)

The witch hazel plants that joined the garden are flourishing between the native magnolia and the angelica.

Witch hazel tincture

Collect a few branches of witch hazel during the winter when the plant is dormant.
Scrape the bark off the branches.
Fill a clean glass container with the bark.
Fill the jar with 1 part 100 proof alcohol & 1 part distilled water.
Cap tightly and shake.
Place jar on a saucer.
Soak the bark for two to four weeks shaking the jar once a day.
Strain. Bottle in a dark glass container.
Store in a cool, dark place.

Before using, dilute with at least two parts distilled water. The undiluted tincture may irritate sensitive skin.
Use externally as you would witch hazel from the store.
